The luxury tented accommodation is spacious and each tent has an en suite bathroom and a private verandah that is an ideal place to enjoy ‘time out’ in the middle of the day. Kenya Vacations Alternatively, relax around the small swimming pool, which is set in a pretty, natural garden.
The open-plan thatched bar, dining room and lounge is located on a hill and affords magnificent views across the plains to snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro. Tortilis is renowned for delicious home-style cuisine. Fresh herbs and vegetables are grown in camp and homemade pasta, a house specialty, is carefully prepared by the chef who was trained by the owner’s Italian mother. The camp also has a small gift shop.
The real attraction of Amboseli National Park is the superb game viewing, often enhanced by the spectacular backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli is one of the best parks in Kenya to see elephant and there are big numbers of buffalo, lion, giraffe, hyena, cheetah and a variety of smaller carnivores and antelope species. The park is largely arid land of acacia and tall savannah grasses and in such an exposed landscape the animals are easy to observe. In places, subterranean springs have transformed the plain into marshland. This is a great park for photography – you may be lucky enough to snap one of those quintessentially African shots when a big herd of elephant passes by snow covered Kenya Holiday Kilimanjaro.
This region is home to the nomadic Masai people and you will see their circular manyattas (villages), surrounded by thorny scrub fences, scattered across the plains.

Shaded by indigenous trees the camp looks out on an endless vista of plains game and panoramic views. The Masai Mara Game Reserve contains great concentrations of wildlife and adjoins Tanzania’s Serengeti Plains forming the northern end of the great migration ecosystem. Hippos and crocodiles are plentiful in the rivers and the bird life is also abundant. No less than 53 different species of birds of prey alone have been recorded. After a last morning game drive transfer to the Airstrip for the flight to Nairobi and connect (only a 1 hour wait) to the Lamu flight. Arriving on Manda Airstrip you are transferred by boat to Peponi Hotel on Lamu Island.
Lamu, Town, Island and Archipelago, all of the same name, lie 2 degrees below the Equator on Kenya’s northern coast. The island has been a port of varying importance for thousands of years but even today, Lamu is remote, even by Kenyan standards.
Peponi Hotel has a total of 24 rooms the superior rooms are larger and have a private outside area. No two rooms are alike and all have a pleasant outlook over the gardens and the sea. All rooms have overhead fans, mosquito nets, showers, Swahili styled décor, fresh flowers and personal safes.

At some point in your stay you may like to take a dhow trip – either for a lunch picnic on one of the many nearby islands for sunset drinks. The hotel also runs a turtle conservation project and you may be lucky enough to be there when a nest of babies hatch. Your stay should also include a quiet wander through the town of Lamu and a browse in the galleries and markets.
