Lake Victoria Basin Nyanza Kenya

The Lake Victoria basin is an elevated tract of comparatively flat land in the Southwestern end of the country, in the administrative region corresponding to the Nyanza (Lake in Swahili) and Western provinces. The elevated tract continues northward to the Cherangani Hills at the Northeast, in the western edge of the Rift valley, and to Elgon mountain (4,321m), found in Ugandan territory. Southward, the plateau is limited at the East by the Mau Escarpment and reaches the land that skirts lake Victoria, at an altitude of 1,200m. The most pompous city in this region is Kisumu, found at the grounds at the edge of Winam Bay, in Lake Victoria. In largeness, the town takes the third position in the whole country, and it is the capital of the Luo people and also of the Nyanza province. The Lake, which is the third largest in the world, having a total area of nearly 68,000km2, is infact an inland sea that is share by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
