Mafia Island Tour Zanzibar
MAFIA ISLAND
Mafia lies south of Zanzibar off the mouth of the Fuiji River. The island is covered by coconut palms and cashew trees established by Omanis in their Zanzibar heydays. It is a favourite breeding ground for giant turtles, which come up onto the coral white sands to lay their eggs.
Deep-sea fishing and scuba diving
Mafia is a resort island for deep-sea fishing and scuba diving. It’s a superb place to do this - a 200m-deep trough running along the sea bed about one km off the western shoreline of the island. The best coral formations are found off the small islands scattered around the main island.
Getting there
Mafia is located XX km south of Zanzibar. You can reach it best by airoplane from Dar es Salaam.
