Lake Baringo Tour Kenya

LAKE BARINGO: ACCESS:
Reaching Baringo from Nairobi, which is 307Km away, in one day is not the best option. The quickest day trip is from Nakuru, which is only 125Km away and having a nice conditioned road. Eldoret is 138Km away from the lake, but the route is more unfavourable. If you make it from Samburu, the 300Km of worse to worst roads join you to amid way overnight stop, for example at Moralal reserve. Definitely, a convenient trip is from Bogoria, but the absence of accommodation advises right the opposite, make Bogoria as a day trip from Baringo.

Driving from Nairobi, get the A104 going to Naivasha, Gilgil and Nakuru. Some 30Km after Nakuru, you ill turn right to the B4, going to Kampi ya moto, Bogoria, Marigat and Kampi ya samaki, Kampi ya samaki town is at the land which skirts the lake 2Km off the highway. The road is tarmac up to the north tip of the lake.

From Eldoret, get the C51 going northward to Cherangani Hills. After 33Km at the town of Iten, the route turns southeast. From there, you will head to the towns of Karamin, Tambach, Chebloch and Kabarnet to finally get to the junction with the B4 in Marigat, where you will turn left to go to Kampi ya samaki and Lake Baringo.

Lastly, from Samburu you will continues north along the A2 past Archer’s post. The extension could probably not be safe, it is better you inquire at the gate of the park before setting off. 22Km after Archer’s post, you will diverge to the left to the C78 going to Wamba, Kisima and Mpralal. Its better you stop at maralal for an overnight because this road will spoil you wheels.
The following day, use the same path you took to get to the reserve and continue to Kisima, where you will diverge to the right to the C77 going southward for Rumuruti. After 33 tiresome Kilometre, you will turn right to the C77D. This route crosses Lerogi plateau and borders Laikipia planes, offering you an enjoyable trip through the Tugen and Pokot lands and magnificent views of Baringo Lake.
The route passes Tangulbei and heads to Loruk, at thenorth tip of the lake. Get to know that, as you go on this journey, there is petrol present only at Archer’s post, Maralal and Lake Baringo club. To add on that, when the rains fall, be sure to get a lot of mud along the route.

From Nairobi and Eldoret, there are many buses and matatus going to Nakuru everyday. From here, there are two buses that go to Kampi ya samaki everyday, however, matatus just stop at Marigat.

The boats for Ol kokwa Island, where Island camp is found, may be paid for on contract at the jetty north of Kampi ya samaki.
