Lake Baringo Safari Lodges
LAKE BARINGO: LODGING:
Lake Baringo club:
The main advantage of looking at birds is that at times the lodge itself is an advantageous place, and this takes place at the gardens of Lake Baringo club, which is under Block Hotels. At the land that skirts the lake, there is a signpost warning that wild animals are harmful. Definitely, it is not for the birds, rather it is for the hippos, which also feed at the club’s gardens after it has become darker. The lodge having a swimming pool, restaurant and bar, is a luxurious and calm place with activities aimed at knowing the local bird life, including bird walk, film shows and audiovisuals.
Island camp:
The only lodging option at the lake is island camp. More dear compared to lake Baringo club, this luxury-tented camp having 25 double tents is found in Ol kokwa Island, right at the centre of the lake. To add on the usual amenities of swimming pool, restaurant and bar, the place provides wildlife and sport activities, for example, water-skiing and windsurfing.
Fort Baringo:
The remains of the Fort, which was constructed by the British soldiers I the colonisation era, are still seen at the edge of Loimanange.
Arrita Kabarnet:
Karbanet town is the head of Baringo district and also the hometown of Kenya’s former President, His Excellency Daniel Arap Moi. The town itself is not enjoyable, but the location and the road that goes up to Tugen Hills, at the edge of Kerio valley, show exciting and impressive views. To reach from Baringo, go south from Kampi ya samaki along the B4 and turn right in Marigat to the C51 for Eldoret.
This town houses the Kabarnet museum, which belongs to the National museums of Kenya. The museum was constructed in the former home of the District Commissioner and displays elements from the local culture and traditions, also the information on Lake Baringo and its surrounding area. Lush vegetation growing in its large gardens makes it almost a small botanic park.

Arriba Ol Ari Nyiro:
Ol Ari Nyiro is the 100,000 acre ranch under Kuki Gallman, the popular Italian-born conservationist who wrote “I dreamed of Africa”, a splendid autobiographical book put to the screen by Hugh Hudson.
You will be permitted to tour the reserve as long as you remain at its luxury lodge, that is, The Mukutan Retreat, having only three magnificent rooms found at an advantaged site, the escarpment bordering the Mukutan Gorge. Despite its geographical nearness to Lake Baringo, in fact, this is not the easiest place from where to get to Ol Ari Nyiro, since the main entrance is at the opposite side, on the south sector of the ranch (the easiest way to reach the ranch is from Nyahururu, south of Laikipia Escarpment). To set off from Baringo, use the Maralal route and turn to the south to the C77. In Rumuruti, diverge right at the crossroads.
