Leopard Safari Kenya
These with Pathera Pardus as their zoological name, are said to be the smallest of the cats. The leopard, however, has the broadest range of big cats and various leopard sub-species are found across Africa and Asia leopards, which can be spotted in many wildlife parks in Africa have got a striking appearance with sleek golden yellow coat marked with dark rosettes, short powerful limbs and a long tail.
Despite the fact that it is the smallest, the leopard is the most adaptable of the big cats and it is the strongest climber, which is often seen resting on the branches of trees. Leopard, a solitary animal which can defined itself fiercely when attacked, is in cases found in forested areas in Africa, rift valleys, most parts of Africa below the Sahara and on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Leopards are estimated to be around 500, 000 worldwide with Africa having the majority.
Poaching and human encroachment are the most aspects believed to be threatening and endangering many sub-species of leopards.
Leopard, a stocky compact bodied animal, ranges from 3 to 8 feet long, including the tails and can weigh from 80 to 150 pounds. They have strong jaws and shoulders, which help them in tree climbing. The underside of their tail is white, and with this colour, the cubs and other animals can very well realize the presence of the leopard, because this colour acts as a signal to other animals.
As far as their diet is concerned, leopards are believed to be shrewd and fierce hunters that attack prey which is larger than them. After getting their kill, leopards then protect them from lions or hyena by dragging the kills into the branches of trees. Their hunts normally include; antelopes, baboons, monkeys, wild boar, hares, rodents and fish.
Male leopards usually stay in a range that overlaps the ranges of many female leopards and can even spend many days with a female in breeding season. Female leopards usually give birth to a litter of 1-3 cubs, which cubs get out from their homes after they are two months and they then spend like 2 years accompanying their mother. Their beautiful pelts is the reason as to why leopards are often hunted, a fact that causes stress to their population despite their larger numbers than other big cats.
