This is a resource for Kenya animals, the big five, complete list, pictures and some wildlife safaris where you can see the animals of Kenya. You will find that the most sought after animals are the big five, the buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhino.
You can see all these animals surviving in their natural habitats, forget about a zoo in Kenya. Other animals to see include the Giraffe, Antelopes, Hippos, Wildebeests, the Warthog and families of Gazelles.

African Lion safari Kenya.
The lion is still one of the top animals that people on a Kenya wildlife safari see. These predators and rather powerful creatures are found mainly in Masai Mara reserve where there is more food for them, ranging from the wildebeests to zebras and gazelles. There are many prides of lions within Masai Mara National Park only. In the animal world,the lions seem to draw the most attention. The most famous of this class is the lion. The largest of the cat family or mammal felines in Africa, they spend much of their time resting in the tree shades. If pride goes out to feed at dusk or dawn, it is mainly women who do everything from hunting, but sometimes lead men to women experiencing hidden then do the actual killing. women live in herds on the Savannah of the men of 2:59 ET until 15 may look like docile cats lions sunbathing. Especially young children who find great joy in listening to their mothers who take their well-deserved sleep after a night of hunting.

You will find only 2 species of the Rhino in Kenya, that is a white rhinos and black. Both are threatened to extinct. A White Rhino is the name from the Dutch word meaning wide Weid. white rhino has a wide, wide mouth adapted for grazing. Often hang in large groups. The largest population of white rhinos in Kenya is located in Lake Nakuru National Park. black rhino is found to adapt the navigation upper lip. It feeds on a bush dry and difficult to wash, especially acacia. Rhinos blacks has a keen sense of smell and hearing, sight, but very poor. They lead a solitary life and is more dangerous for both species. Masai Mara National Reserve is the largest population of blacks rhinos, along with many other animals in Kenya.

The leopard gracefully leads a solitary life except during mating season. The beauty of dark spots against the fundamental contradiction of rich gold the power of these cats can mobilize, if necessary, and it is actually very difficult to find. In general, the animals at night, the best place to find them in the rocky hills, tall branches or brush in the thick forest. Agile as a common cat, they drag their kills to the top of a tree where they can be sure that nobody can find the treasure and disrupt their dinner. They are the only big cats do.

The last member of the Big Five is the African elephant. The African elephant is larger than the Asian elephant, and has large ears. Just like the rhinoceros, it is unfortunately hunted for its tusks, it is a protected species. East Africa is one of the few areas where the elephant is booming and the numbers are rising. They are very abundant in some parks, like Shimba Hills Reserve and Amboseli National Park. Travel in herds of elephants and can be very destructive to vegetation and landscape, when their population becomes too high. In Kenya, elephants live in grasslands or savanna forest, either.

Kenya has a great climatic diversity that goes in parallel with the different geographic regions described elsewhere. As an Equatorial country, there is little variation in temperatures throughout the year. However, among regions there are great differences in average temperatures and rainfall. This climatologic diversity is mainly due to the winds and the altitude differences.

The rainfall pattern is important because of its influence on wildlife and the road conditions. Upon the rains, many roads become flooded or muddy and are impassable. The rainy season is divided in two periods: the long rains fall between March and June, whereas the short rains take place between October and November. In general, temperatures are higher during the months corresponding to the boreal winter, i.e., January, February and March.

# The weather today and forecast (external links):

    * Kenya Meteorological Department
* Weather.com

# Climate and vegetation by regions:

    * Lake Victoria basin
* Rift Valley and Highlands
* N, NE and Eastern Highlands (Nyika)
* Kenya’s coast

Climate and vegetation by regions

      Top Lake Victoria basin

      Climate at the shores of Lake Victoria is modulated by altitude, around 1,200 m, and by the moist winds coming from the Great Lakes. Temperatures are high during the day and moderate at night, with annual highs of 31°C and lows of 17°C.

      At the slopes of Mount Elgon there are still some patches of tropical rainforest. The typical Highlands vegetation is found on the most part of this territory.

      Top Rift Valley and Highlands

      Speaking generally, altitude and winds in this region are the cause of a moderate and mild climate. In Nairobi, 1,700 m high, highest temperatures are 26-27°C in the boreal winter months and of 23°C during the boreal summer. The lowest are in the range of 12-15°C. Obviously, temperatures drop at higher altitudes. In the Mount Kenya region, mean temperatures are between 12 and 18°C, with night temperatures below 10°C. The night lows are equally cold in the Aberdare region. Rainfall is usually plentiful in the rainy season, with higher levels in the long rains.

      The savannah, the most peculiar and typical lanscape in this region of the world, is actually nothing but a transition between rainforest and the arid steppe, and its origin as a natural or man-made ecosystem is controverted. It is mainly a grassland, dominated by gramineae and with variable presence of trees and bush, especially acacia. The savannah’s natural balance is a consequence of the action of several factors: the regular rainfall pattern, which promotes the growth of tender pastures; migrations of large herds of herbivores, that move searching the young salt-rich pastures; and fire action, that hinders the overgrowth of trees and bush that would compete with grass for sunlight and the soil’s nutrients.

      Species of the Acacia genus, belonging to the Mimosa family, growing as tree or bush, are the most common and typical in the savannah. Acacias are easily distinguished by their flat top, their hard thorns, their composed leaves, their cylindrical clustering flowers and their leguminous-like fruit. Their bark is rich in tannin and is used for manufacturing dies and pharmaceutical products. The acacia is the favourite food for several animal species, such as giraffes, elephants and gerenuks.

      The Highlands preserve, above 1,300 m, the richest extensions of rainforest in Kenya, though they do not exceed 3% of the total surface of the country. The largest patches are in Mount Kenya region. Ferns, mediterranean cedars, junipers and conifers of the Podocarpus genus are widely present. Bamboo forests are found above 2,000 m. At higher altitudes, above 3,000 m, mountain vegetation predominates, mainly heather, peat bogs, montane prairies and giant lobelias.

      Top N, NE and Eastern Highlands (Nyika)

      The northern and northeastern regions have the roughest climate, which is reflected in the arid landscape. Rainfall is scarce, with annual levels around 350 mm. Temperatures are high all the year round, rising to 37°C during the day in the hottest months. Night temperatures do not usually fall below 21°C. In the Eastern Highlands, temperatures are also warm but lower, around 30°C during the day and 20°C at night, with higher average rainfalls, specially in the areas surrounding Kilimanjaro.

      Vegetation in the north and northeast is sparse, primarily consisting of thornbush. In the south area there are acacias and tree cacti of the Euphorbia genus. The giant Baobab (Adansonia digitata), of the Bombacacea family, outstands for its spectacularity, sometimes growing to 18 m high and with the trunks reaching 9 m in diameter. Its long and pulpy fruit is good for eating, and the bark is used for manufacturing ropes and cloth.

      Vegetation is more diverse and abundant only at the oasis in the north and northeast, in the river valleys and in areas such as Taïta Hills, with an alpine-like landscape.

      Given the extension of the arid regions, the biggest part of Kenya’s land consists of deserts or semi-deserted steppes.

      Top
Kenya’s coast

      The average annual temperatures in the Kenyan Indian Ocean coast are around 28°C. In general, weather at the coast is warm and humid, as corresponds to its latitude. Storms are frequent and temperatures rarely drop below 21°C, with the highests around 32°C during the boreal winter months, which are generally drier and warmer. Total annual rainfall rises to 1,100 mm.

      The temperature and humidity conditions make this region the suitable habitat for tropical vegetation. Mangroves and coconut palm trees grow along the shores and there are still some patches of tropical rainforest.

At 68,800 square kilometres (26,600 sq mi), Lake Victoria is Africa’s largest lake, and the largest tropical lake in the world. As Lake Michigan-Huron is connected at the same elevation pool and is thus treated as one lake by hydrologists and geographers, Lake Victoria is the world’s third-largest freshwater lake. In terms of volume, it is the world’s seventh-largest freshwater lake, containing 2,750 cubic kilometres (2.2 billion acre-feet) of water.

The lake receives most of its water from direct precipitation. Its largest influent is the Kagera River, the mouth of which lies on the lake’s western shore. The only river to leave the lake, the White Nile (known as the “Victoria Nile” as it leaves the lake), leaves at Jinja, Uganda, on the lake’s north shore [1].

Lake Victoria occupies a shallow depression in the East African Plateau, and has a maximum depth of 84 metres (280 ft) and an average depth of 20 metres (66 ft). Its catchment area covers 184,000 square kilometres (71,040 mi2). The lake has a shoreline of some 4,828 kilometres (3,000 mi), with islands constituting some 3.7% of this length,[2] and is divided between three countries: Kenya (6% or 4,100 km2), Uganda (45% or 31,000 km2) and Tanzania (49% or 33,700 km2)[3].

Lake Victoria supports Africa’s largest inland fishery.[4]

Lake Victoria supports Africa’s largest inland fishery.[4]

Lake Victoria has, during its geological history, gone through successive changes ranging from its present shallow depression, through to what may have been a series of much smaller lakes[5]. Cores taken from its bottom show that Lake Victoria has dried up completely three times since it formed.[6] These drying cycles are probably related to past ice ages, which are times when precipitation declined globally.[6] The lake last dried out 17,300 years ago, and filled again beginning 14,700 years ago. Geologically, the lake is relatively young – about 400,000 years old – and formed when westward-flowing rivers were dammed by an upthrown crustal block.[7]
Lake Victoria and the Great Rift Valley

This geological history probably contributed to the dramatic Cichlid speciation that characterises its ecology, as well as that of other African Great Lakes[8], although there are researchers who refute this, arguing that while Lake Victoria was at its lowest between 18,000 and 14,000 calendar years ago, and it dried out at least once during that time, there is no evidence of remnant ponds or marshes persisting within the desiccated basin. If such features existed, then they would have been small, shallow, turbid, and/or saline, and therefore markedly different from the lake to which today’s species are adapted[9].

The lake’s shallowness, limited river inflow, and large surface area relative to its volume make it vulnerable to the effects of climate changes.

Eastern Rift Valley lakes (Kenya and Tanzania)
Lake Natron from space

South of the Ethiopian highlands, the rift valley splits into two major troughs. The Eastern Rift is home to the Kenyan Rift Valley lakes, while most of the Central African Rift Valley lakes lie in the Western Rift. The Kenyan section of the Rift Valley is home to eight lakes, of which two are freshwater and the rest alkaline. Of the latter, the shallow soda lakes of the Eastern Rift Valley have crystallised salt turning the shores white, and are famous for the large flocks of flamingo that feed on crustaceans.

    * Lake Turkana (6405 km², elevation 360 m), alkaline, is the largest of the Kenyan lakes, on the border of Kenya and Ethiopia.
* Lake Logipi is a seasonal, shallow hot-spring fed soda lake in the Suguta Valley just south of Lake Turkana.
* Lake Baringo (80 sq miles, elevation 1000 m) freshwater, second largest of the Kenyan Rift Valley lakes,
* Lake Bogoria(34 km², elevation 990 m) shallow soda lake, a national preserve
* Lake Nakuru (40 km², elevation 1759 m) shallow soda lake, has been a national park since 1968
* Lake Elmenteita, shallow soda lake
* Lake Naivasha (160 km² — varies somewhat with rainfall, elevation 1,890 m), freshwater lake, is the highest in this group.
* Lake Magadi, shallow soda lake

The Tanzanian section of this group has alkaline lakes:

    * Lake Natron, shallow soda lake which has categorised by the World Wildlife Fund as the East African halophytics ecoregion.
* Lake Manyara,
* Lake Eyasi, shallow soda lake
* Lake Makati, shallow soda lake

The Rift Valley lakes are a group of lakes in the Great Rift Valley formed by the East African Rift which runs through the whole eastern side of the African continent from north to south. These lakes include some of the oldest, largest and deepest lakes in the world, and many are freshwater ecoregions of great biodiversity, while others are alkaline or soda lakes supporting highly specialised organisms.

The Rift Valley Lakes are well known for the evolution of at least 800 cichlid fish species that live in their waters. More species will be discovered.[1]

The World Wildlife Fund has designated the African Rift Valley lakes one of its Global 200 priority ecoregions for conservation.

In this article, the major lakes are listed, generally in order from north to south, and more detailed articles on each lake can be accessed through the linked names.

The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest is East Africa’s largest surviving, dry coastal forest, situated only 7 km inland from Watamu and 18 km southwest from Malindi on the Kenya Coast.

The Forest covers an area of approximately 400 square km and is composed of three distinctly different forest habitats: mixed lowland forest, open Brachystegia woodland and dense Cynometra forest, providing a unique and important habitat for a number of endemic and endangered birds, insects and mammals.

A small population of elephant, buffalo and six species of small antelope, including the globally endangered Ader’s Duiker, can be found in the Forest. Mongoose, bush babies and genet cat can sometimes be seen at night, while the caracal and the endangered golden-rumped elephant shrew are often visible during the day. Baboons and Sykes monkeys are often spotted.

One third of Kenya’s 870 butterfly species are abundant in the Forest, especially during the rainy season (May-July).

Considered the second most important African forest for its bird conservation value, over 260 species of bird have been recorded in Arabuko-Sokoke Forest. A global stronghold for one Globally Endangered species, the spotted ground thrush, and five Globally Threatened species of birds, the Sokoke Scops owl, Sokoke pipit, east coast akalat, Amani sunbird, and the Clarke’s weaver, are all endemic to the area. The Forest is also home to a large number of bird species restricted to the coastal area, such as the green barbet, Fisher’s turaco and southern banded snake eagle.

Arabuko-Sokoke National Forest Description
The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest is East Africa’s largest remaining indigenous coastal forest. The Forest contains over 260 species of birds including six species of globally threatened birds – Sokoke Scops Owl, Sokoke Pipit, East Coast Akalat, Spotted Ground Thrush, Amani Sunbird and Clarke’s Weaver. Several of the rare mammals that call the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest home are the golden-rumped elephant shrew, bushy-tailed mongoose and Ader’s duiker.

The forest plays host to plenty of rare species including birds, butterflies, amphibians and plants.

Arabuko-Sokoke Forest

Arabuko-Sokoke forest (41,600 hectares) is the largest single block of natural coastal forest remaining in East Africa. Its rich biodiversity includes a concentration of endemic and endangered flora and fauna.

On the African mainland the forest ranks second in bird conservation value, after the Congo rain forest, as home to six globally threatened taxa (Clarke’s Weaver, Sokoke Scops Owl, Amani Sunbird, Sokoke Pipit, Spotted Ground Thrush and East Coast Akalat).

Of the fifty two mammal species found in the forest 5 are globally threatened (African Elephant, Golden Rumped Elephant Shrew, Bushy Tailed Mongoose, Red Bush Squirrel and Ader’s Duiker). Diverse populations of reptiles and invertebrates are present, which include 250 recorded species of butterfly (4 are endemic). The forests conservation depends on its co-existence with the surrounding rapidly growing rural population that is hard pressed for land, jobs and income sources.

Nairobi is a charming, cosmopolitan city, blessed with the most wildlife in the world, making it a great safari destination. Known as the ‘Green City in the Sun’, Nairobi is the largest city as well as the capital of Kenya.
The city got its name from a Maasai phrase Enkare Nyorobi meaning “the place of cool waters”. The province of Nairobi is located on the Nairobi River in the south of the country. Furthermore, it is the most populated city in East Africa, and the fourth largest city in Africa.
In 1899, it was popular as a simple rail depot on the railway connecting Mombasa and Uganda. In 1963, the city became the capital of Kenya. Today, Nairobi is a well-known hub for business and culture. It is also a homeland for many organizations and companies.

It is the largest city between Johannesburg and Cairo, and a holiday in Nairobi is to experience the good, the bad and the ugly of urban Africa. The main reason people travel to Nairobi is to launch onto one of Kenya’s famous wildlife safaris or a trip to the coast. The city itself offers buzzing markets, some interesting sightseeing and a lively nightlife.

When? A holiday in Nairobi can be taken virtually any time of year, although the summer months (November to February) are most popular with sunny, warm days. The altitude of the city makes for a moderate climate, and it can be fairly cool in winter, especially at night. The rainiest season is autumn.

Who for? People who travel to Nairobi are usually those intent on a big game safari experience, using the city as a base for eco-tours and game viewing expeditions to Kenya’s national parks and reserves.

More Info: Health and safety are major considerations for anyone planning a holiday in Nairobi: check the current situation in respect of these issues, and find a host of other useful information in our Nairobi travel guide, which is updated regularly.

Overview

Nairobi is best characterised by its variety of locally-given descriptive names, representative of the city’s contrasting images – of wealthy spacious suburbs, charming flower-lined streets and a refreshing climate, alongside crime, corruption, filth and poverty. Names like ‘Green City in the Sun’, ‘City of Flowers’ and the Masai name ‘Place of Cool Waters’ attempt to overshadow the all too real version of ‘Nairobbery’ that stands as a well-found warning to newly arrived tourists.

Nairobi is one of Africa’s largest and most interesting cities. It is a place of enormous energy, a tireless and thriving bustle of people, and a city of differences. Assorted races, tribes and origins are all a part of its make-up. Rural immigrants and refugees are drawn by the hope of wealth and opportunity, international businessmen are attracted by profitable business prospects, and tourists are promised the makings of the perfect safari. The city centre buzzes with the energy, aspirations and opportunism of moneychangers, safari touts, would-be thieves, food vendors and trinket sellers, prostitutes, shoppers, security guards, and sharp-eyed shoe shiners assessing the footwear of the hurried throngs. Among them are the disillusioned faces of the unemployed, the beggars and the destitute.

Kenyatta Avenue is the city’s favourite tourist image, a broad avenue fringed by trees and flowers that was originally designed to allow a twelve-oxen team to make a full turn. There are several museums and places of interest in the centre, including the National Museum and Snake Park. There are numerous markets selling traditional crafts, especially the appealing Masai market. Just outside of the centre is the Nairobi National Park, and the nearby Bomas of Kenya host performances of traditional dancing and singing. The Langata Giraffe Centre offers visitors the chance to hand-feed the Rothschild giraffes that inhabit the area.

Nairobi is also the safari capital of Africa and a good base for travel in Kenya. From here excursions and safaris can be arranged to any of the national parks or reserves in the country.

Karen Blixen Museum
Located near Nairobi, Karen Blixen Museum was opened in 1986. The Museum was a farmhouse of a Danish author, Karen Blixen and exhibits beautiful collection of photographs and furniture.
Tel. No: +254 20 3742131
Nairobi National Park
Located about 7 kilometers to the south of Nairobi, Nairobi National Park is one of the Kenya’s flourishing rhinoceros sanctuaries. The place has also got a variety of Africa’s best known animals. There are lots of giraffes, zebras, ostriches, baboons, cheetahs and lions roaming freely inside the park.
Giraffe Centre
Located in Langata, about 5km from Nairobi, Giraffe Centre was found to protect the endangered giraffes. It was started by Jock Leslie-Melville. Rothschild giraffe, giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi, living only in the grasslands of East Africa are found here. The place is also a home for a warthogs roaming freely along with the giraffes. One can enjoy feeding the giraffes from a raised platform.
Safari park
Safari park is a popular tourist destination in Nairobi. There are animals from the Sub-Saharan Africa such as antelopes, elephants, zebras, lions, rhinoceros and giraffes. The animals are not kept in cages and the tourists can drive their own vehicle inside to enjoy the wildlife.
Uhuru Monument
Built in 1973, Uhuru Monument serves as a tribute to independence. The national flag was hoisted near the ihara tree on 12th December 1963. There is a map of Kenya along with its different provinces surrounding the tree.
Nyayo Monument
Nyayo Monument was built in 1988 commemorating independence. It is constructed in marble depicting the lowering of the British colonial flag and the raising of the Kenyan flag.
Bomas of Kenya
Located in Langata, Bomas of Kenya is a village showcasing the rich cultural values of the different tribal groups of Kenya. It was established in 1971 by the government as a contribution to the Kenya Tourist Development Corporation.

- Keekorok Lodge

Amid the vast sweeping plains of the savanna stands Keekorok, the Masai Mara’s first game lodge, in the direct path of the spectacular annual migration. Built in 1962, on the site of a 1920′s hunting camp, against the backdrop of Kenya’s most magnificent scenery, Keekorok boasts an abundance of wildlife, sun surpassed for its numbers and diversity. After undergoing recent renovations, Keekorok offers you a unique safari experience: an environment of contemporary African style and natural charm, with all the magic of the Masai Mara. Spot the “Big Five” on a single morning game drive, or enjoy a leisurely sun downer on the elevated 300m walkway and see hippos and other animals and birds, without even leaving the lodge.

- Masai Mara
Justifiably one of the most famous reserves in Africa, its’ dominant feature are the great rolling plains of savanna grasslands, which sustain the greatest variety of wildlife in Africa and indeed in the world. The concentration of game is at its highest from July through October when the Mara is host to the annual migration of more than a million wildebeest. However, game viewing is excellent year round with giraffe, buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest and Thompson’s gazelle offering a rich choice for the predators lion, leopard and cheetah. It should be noted, however, that during the rainy season, the grass is fairly tall in some areas, which may affect visibility and restrict game drives slightly.

The Maasai people, after whom the park is named, are nomadic. While on game drives, you will often notice young tribesmen herding their cattle amongst the plains game. They are colorfully attired, usually wrapped in bright red cloths, and armed with spears.

Option 2

Kenya Fishing Tour

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Nairobi. On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta airport, you will be met and assisted. Transfer to your hotel at the city outskirts. Overnight at Safari Park Hotel BB.

Day 2: Mt Kenya

After breakfast, drive North to Mount Kenya. Drive to Rutundu which is situated on the northern slopes of Mt. Kenya at 10,200 feet, just above the forest line. These log cabins overlook Lake Rutundu in total privacy, surrounded by alpine vegetation. Lake Rutundu and Lake Alice, both a scenic hike from the cabins, are stocked with rainbow trout, averaging 2-3 pounds, with the larger fish weighing 6 pounds. Not many people can say they’ve caught a trout within 5 km of the equator! There are three casting platforms and a boat/punt, as well as plenty of keen and experienced hands to help you. Lunch and afternoon spent on Fishing. Overnight at Lake Rutundu Cabins LDBB

Day 3: Mt Kenya

Today, enjoy hiking and fishing on Lake Alice. There is a beautiful walk around Lake Alice, through Giant Groundsel and heather forests. Nearby, the Kizita River Gorge offers a crystal clear river, with small brown trout. All meals and overnight at Lake Rutundu Cabins BB. Includes: (L), (D).

Day 4: Samburu

After breakfast, drive to Samburu National Reserve. Samburu came to international limelight in the early 2000 when a lioness adopted two Oryx babies, each at different times, akin to the Biblical Garden of Eden. Remote and rugged, this reserve provides some of the most colorful photography and unique game viewing in the country. Lunch will be served at your lodge. After a brief afternoon rest enjoy tour first game drive. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).

Day 5: Samburu

Spend early morning and afternoon game viewing drives in this reserve which covers 40 square miles (104 square kilometres). Ololokwe Table Mountain forms a dramatic backdrop to our game viewing, as we search the unique game only found north of the equator; straight-horned Beisa Oryx antelope, long-necked Gerenuk gazelle, Blue legged Somali ostrich and the grevy zebra, the dirty brown Ewaso Nyiro River is dotted with doum palms and meanders through the reserve giving it an oasis setting.
Day 12: Masai Mara. Morning will be fishing at Malewa river. Lunch and afternoon drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve offering wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago. Afternoon game drive on the way to your lodge.
Day 13: Masai Mara. Day spent game-viewing in the reserve with early morning and afternoon game drives. All meals and overnight at Keekorok lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).

Day 14: Nairobi. Early morning game drive. Drive to Nairobi, Kenya’s colorful capital city. Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta airport for your homeward flight or beach extension.

Notes:

- Lake Rutundu Log Cabins: The Lake Rutundu Log Cabins are situated in a remarkable setting on Mount Kenya. This is an unusual opportunity of fly fishing for rainbow trout at a height of 10,000 ft. The cabins are built in the original style of log cabins with moss filling the gaps between the logs and bitumen on the roof. Sheepskin rugs and open fires ensure a cosy warm atmosphere at night. Two cabins sleep four people comfortably but there is room for more. Hot water is heated in kuni (wood) boosters using old heather roots for fuel.

- Fishing: The main attraction of Lake Rutundu is the fact that is privately stocked with rainbow trout. The staff at the Cabins are also trained gillies and using barbless hooks and a rowing boat, many hours can be spent trying your luck in perfect tranquil conditions. No previous fishing experience is necessary and in fact many visitors come purely to enjoy the unique mountain scenery. Extraordinary walks and additional fishing on the stunning Lake Alice at 12,200 feet make this trip a worthwhile and memorable experience.

- Lake Baringo: In Kenya’s Great Rift Valley is a freshwater lake approximately 22 km long, by 11 kms wide, with an area of 168 sq kms. It is situated at an altitude of 1100 meters but is surrounded by mountains rising to almost 300 meters above the ambient ground level in places. At the northern end of the Lake lies the dormant volcano, Karosi, 1449 meters high.

The water of Lake Baringo is fresh unlike those other Great Rift Valley lakes of Bogoria, Elementeita, Nakuru and Magadi which are “soda lakes.” Although it is not known where the water flows out of Lake Baringo, it is reasoned that it must do so as otherwise the water would be subject to a continual process of evaporation, and the Lake would become soda. It may well do so from a submerged crevasse at its northern end, emerging 100 ks north at Karpedda.

As a freshwater Lake it is home to hippos, crocodiles and an abundance of fish and birds, but it does not have flamingos, as these feed on the algae specific to soda lakes. Despite this, it is most famous as an ornithologist’s paradise, with 500 bird species, many of which are extremely rare or otherwise only seen in this area.

The climate is warm (25 to 35 degrees) all year round, day and night. While a welcome breeze blows off the Lake in the evenings, the sensation of coldness is practically unknown here. The annual average rainfall is 640 mm, a large proportion of which falls in May-July and a lesser amount in November-December. The people in the vicinity of the Lake are the Tugen and the Il Chamus (or Njempse) with the Pokot living slightly further north, and visiting the area to graze cattle or trade. A few Turkana have migrated to the area. There is very little cultivation owing to the long hot dry season, followed by the habitually violent rains in May, and most inhabitants survive on the grazing of goats, sheep and cattle supplemented by fishing Catfish and Tilapia and harvesting of wild fruits and berries.

- Fishing Lodge – Aberdare National Park: Located on Aberdare National Park. The lodge has 2 Houses; each with 3 Bedrooms. Two rooms have one double and one single bed, third room has one single bed (7 Pax. per house); Two ensuite bathroom per house.

Fans of this multitalented beauty might like to know how they can get their hands on a Kenya Moore swimsuit calendar. She’s come a long way since winning the Miss USA title in 1993; she is an actress and now author of the upcoming book, Game, Get Some! What Women Really Want. However, if you’re not interested so much in what she has to say, but how she looks in a swimsuit, you’ll be happy to know that there are Kenya Moore swimsuit photos available.
Kenya Moore
Why was Kenya Moore such a popular swimsuit pinup? If you’ve ever seen her, it should be obvious. She has a voluptuous figure and beautiful face that seem tailor made for the camera. She seemed very comfortable posing in various bathing suits as well, as evidenced by her cover photo on a Smooth magazine special edition.

She was no stranger to parading around in a swimsuit since that’s a big part of the pageant competitions she took part in. For anyone walking across a stage in such a small piece of clothing, having confidence is key.

Kenya was clearly proud of her bathing suit body and it showed; she won the Miss Michigan and Miss USA titles in the same year, and also competed in the Miss Universe pageant as well. There was certainly something about her appearance in a bathing suit that earned her high marks!
Finding a Kenya Moore Swimsuit Calendar

Currently, it’s difficult to find Kenya Moore posing in a bathing suit for twelve months of the year. While she’s posed for numerous magazines, frequently landing on the cover, her sultry appearances have toned down recently. It may have something to do with her 2007 marriage, or perhaps she’d rather focus on her writing for now.

While men the world over are sure to be disappointed, you can still buy various Kenya Moore items directly from her website, including autographed photos, desktop wallpapers, and in the future, T shirts. Still, don’t give up hope. There’s always the possibility that there will be a future Kenya Moore swimsuit calendar to enjoy.

If you’re a true fan, you can scout out eBay or even garage sales to see if someone is willing to part with any previous Kenya Moore swimsuit calendars and other paraphernalia.
Kenya Moore Appearances

Don’t let the lack of a Kenya Moore swimsuit calendar get you down. There are plenty of opportunities to view this lovely and talented lady online, as well as in her numerous film appearances. If you’re a fan of her acting, check her out in:

    * The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
* The Parkers
* The Jamie Foxx Show
* The Parent ‘Hood
* Smart Guy
* Living Single
* Girlfriends

Kenya has also founded the Kenya Moore Foundation that serves to award educational scholarships to girls who attend her high school alma mater, Cass Technical High School. Clearly, Kenya is more than a pretty face; she also wants to help those who need it. She’s not afraid to admit that her childhood was less than idyllic, and if she can help a young lady who’s struggling with similar adversities, she’s willing to try.

Since calendars featuring bathing beauties are such big sellers year after year, she’d probably experience a good deal of success with this venture. Whether she’s acting, producing, writing or awarding scholarships to deserving students, Kenya Moore’s beauty shines through in a number of ways..
