CAMPING:
Because in the early 80’s, some of the campers were attacked by lions, camping in the park is limited. Possibly, the attacking animals were many semi-tame lions used for a film. Perhaps these lions had got used to humans that did not attempt to attack. Otherwise, probably they affected the rest of the population that then had to change their killing habits. In any way, events culminated in the total refusal to camp outside of the salient and in restrictions for walking through in the high moorlands.
The Reedbuck public campsite, which is sometimes new and near the fishing lodge, is currently the only accepted campsite in the high moorlands.
It offers water,, firewood, toilets and rain shelter. However, the food is not there, therefore, endeavour to carry your own food. Public campsites at Chania falls an Queens Banda, which were closed in the early 90’s seem to be open now.
In the salient area, there are eight special campsites, one in Prince Charles, two in Kiguri and five in Muringato. For reservations and appointments for nature walks, contact the Warden, Aberdare National Park, P.O. Box 22, Nyeri.
